📰 What Happened This Week
Apple filed an appeal against the European Commission's €500M fine for failing to comply with Digital Markets Act rules on external payments. Monzo fined £21M for onboarding customers with Buckingham Palace addresses
The UK's FCA fined Monzo £21M for lax financial crime controls after the neobank onboarded customers using "implausible" addresses including Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street. Monzo signed up over 34,000 high-risk customers despite regulatory restrictions between 2020-2022.
French AI startup Mistral is in talks to raise up to $1B from Abu Dhabi's MGX fund, plus hundreds of millions in debt from French lenders. Mistral has raised $1.19B to date at a $6.51B valuation and is partnering with MGX to build Europe's largest AI data center campus.
Guillaume Princen told Tech.eu that Anthropic isn't targeting rival labs' talent amid its 100+ European hiring spree. He said enterprise customers prioritize AI safety but warned the EU AI Act risks hampering innovation.
